Florida Senate considering measure to allow guns in airport terminals
The Florida Senate is considering a measure that would allow guns into previous "gun-free" zones including airport passenger terminals, college campuses, schools and government meetings.
The measure was being considered prior to a gunman opening fire Friday at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, killing five people and wounding several others.
State Sen. Dennis Baxley, who now represents The Villages, supports the measure that would enhance privileges of those with concealed-carry permits.
"We want fewer people harmed by violence," said Baxley, "but to me the approached they're taking with the gun ban is similar to saying we're going to fight obesity by collecting forks."
